Job overview
Applications are invited for an opportunity to join the dynamic Women and Children's Division as a Specialist Safeguarding Children Nurse.
As a Specialist Safeguarding Children Nurse you will be an integral part of the safeguarding children team based at Stepping Hill Hospital.
The post holder will provide safeguarding children advice, guidance and training to both acute and community staff working for Stockport NHS FT, and support the Safeguarding Children Named Nurse with the service delivery.
This post is particularly suited to experienced registered nurses seeking a career in safeguarding children.
Main duties of the job
To protect children from harm and abuse by identifying and reporting concerns.
Support staff by providing specialist safeguarding knowledge and training.
Support the named nurse for safeguarding children in the delivery of the safeguarding children service.
Work with other agencies to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes for children.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To ensure in conjunction with the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children that effective local safeguarding children policies are in place and Stockport Safeguarding Child Partnership procedures / Greater Manchester procedures are adhered to.
· To assist in the development, implementation, evaluation and delivery of safeguarding training in line with current legislation and local policy to trust wide areas.
· To provide and facilitate individual and group supervision to health professionals ensuring effective case management for families who are identified as vulnerable and for children in care.
· Highlight any issues regarding performance/processes following supervision to the relevant line manager.
· Provide specialist knowledge, support and advice to health professionals on safeguarding matters trust wide.
· Support and assist staff to identify and refer to children’s social care any known / suspected cases of child abuse in order to promote a high standard of safeguarding practice.
· Assist, advise and supervise staff in the preparation of reports in relation to child protection.
· Support staff during strategy and professionals meetings – acting as liaison for other agencies involved in the process.
· To work across both the acute and community safeguarding children’s teams to ensure there is full coverage and a robust service provision.
· To assist the Named Nurse in completing the health information to be considered for the Child Death Overview Panel, Rapid Reviews and CSPRs.
· To assist the Named Nurse in providing health information for the Multi-agency Learning Review/Child Safeguarding Practice Review’s.
· To provide information about hospital care/attendances and health information from case holder records for children involved in the MARAC processes.
· To produce health chronologies when required for concerns around complex cases including fabricated/induced illness.
· Provide specialist knowledge and support to adult areas when caring for 16-17 year olds.
· Provide specialist knowledge and support to staff caring for adults who have children where there are safeguarding concerns.
· To develop effective partnerships, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to address the safeguarding children’s agenda.
· To adhere to future safeguarding children service requirements that are essential to the role of a Safeguarding Children Nurse.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.
If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50 This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

- - Educated to degree level or equivalent experience at this level
