Job overview
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Duty Manager in our Womens and Childrens department. You will be proactive in reviewing the capacity within the unit and supporting the midwives in effective and efficient discharge. Ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to provide a safe service.
Provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and throughout maternity services. This will result in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and responsive to individualised needs, thus increasing client satisfaction.
Main duties of the job
This role will also support the Matrons and Team Leaders in sickness reviews ensuring return to works are undertaken and any escalation required in relation to this undertaken.
You will be an effective ambassador for the trust, be credible and knowledgeable with the confidence and interpersonal skills to support staff at all levels across maternity services and the wider organisation. The post holder will have knowledge in, improvement methodology and have a proactive ‘can do’ approach, be highly motivated and confident in managing challenging and changing workloads. The post holder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will bring a strong patient centred service approach to their role.
This is a new post, which will require a high level of initiative and resourcefulness to develop relationships and introduce systems and processes, including data analysis.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level with specialist knowledge of patient quality gained through experience or education.
- Demonstrable Post Registration Practice and relevant competencies
- Registered Midwife with current registration
- Mentorship module/ENB 997/NIPS
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable Post Registration Practice and relevant competencies
- Evidence of previously working in leadership/ management
- Evidence of clinical and managerial experience and knowledge acquired through CPD
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a range of professionals
- Ability to make decisions and solve complex problems
- Excellent leadership influential, motivational and communication skills
- Excellent abilities in concise and accurate report writing and presentation of information
- Competent in using Microsoft Office software and the internet for the purpose of researching, monitoring and communicating as well as producing reports
