Job overview
We are delighted to be a position to expand our existing Antenatal and Newborn Screening team and we are looking for a highly motivated band 7 midwife who can demonstrate a knowledge of screening and has a particular intertest in haemoglobinopathies and newborn screening.
In this role you will bring your knowledge and understanding of antenatal and newborn screening to the forefront. Working closely with the Antenatal screening and newborn screening coordinator, you will contribute to delivering exceptional care and support for woman and play a key part in ensuring the quality of these vital services.

There will be an expectation that you will apply and attend this year’s genetic risk assessment and counselling course at King’s College London. The course will take place over four days 1 - 2 May 2025 and 5 - 6 June 2025.
Main duties of the job
Support the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator in delivering the Antenatal Screening programmes to Women & Babies, in particular the Sickle cell and Thalassemia programme and newborn screening programmes.
In the absence of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator, co-ordinates the programmes and team.
Provide direct clinical advice and support to meet the needs of pregnant women.
Attend and participate in meetings as required, including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate initiate and advise directly on referrals to other specialties.
Participates in the supervision and the teaching of pre-post registration students, new staff members and junior medical staff.
Assist in the development and delivery of training resources for maternity staff..

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Registered midwife – current NMC registration
- • Educated to degree level.
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of higher level study at Masters Level; Alternatively working knowledge and experience at an equivalent level
- • Mentorship and or teaching qualification
- • NIPE practitioner
- • Genetic risk assessment and counselling module (SCT) or working towards
knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrates a knowledge of the antenatal and newborn screening programmes
- • Understanding of NHS Screening Programmes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- • Awareness of national guidance relating to antenatal and newborn screening services
- • Previous experience of working within Antenatal and Newborn Screening/Fetal Medicine
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of datix incident investigating
- • An understanding of the impact of inequalities in health
- • Experience of undertaking audit
