Job overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced clinician to Lead the Mid Essex First Episode Psychosis Team as the Clinical Lead. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 or above Senior Clinician to become part of this team. The post holder will carry responsibility for the day to day operations of the First Episode Psychosis Team, as directed by, and in collaboration with, the Clinical Manager.

You will have responsibility for the day to day supervision and management of lower banded staff in line with agreed Trust HR processes. In addition you will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers and other practitioners within our large multidisciplinary team in delivering service. With support from the Clinical Manager you will be actively involved in service development and maintaining high levels of Early Intervention Care and Treatment as per the Implementing Early Intervention in Psychosis Access and Wait Time standard (2016, updated 2020).

Main duties of the job

·        Clinical oversight of the Mid Essex First Episode Psychosis Team overseeing and implementing best practice regarding the treatment and care pathway for the EIP service users and their families

·        Provide expertise, support and advice to clinical practitioners regarding all aspects of care including implementing best practise based on evidence base and national guidance

·        Support and guidance for relevant staff and support development and implementation of relevant training programmes and support the development of staff and their skills in working within this specialist practice area.

·        To support the clinical manager with the management of staff including their personal development, wellbeing, supervision and appraisal processes

·        Hold a small caseload of high intensity, complex service users who are experiencing a first episode psychosis and support the clinical team where caseloads may be complex

·        To undertake and lead on audits and service development/QI projects focusing on NICE guidance and benchmarking work for continuing service development

·        Deputise in the role of Clinical Manager which may, at times, require providing clinical leadership to the Mid Essex At Risk Mental State Team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In addition to the main duties the role also involves;

·       Support the Clinical Manager in ensuring the Early Intervention in Psychosis Access and Wait Time Standard are met and that local Performance and Activity targets are met as required for both Health and Social Care Commissioners

·       Provide supervision and clinical/professional leadership to the team, promoting the values of the team and considering training needs and delivering these in conjunction with other MDT members.

·       To provide effective management support, clinical supervision and appraisal and ensuring effective mentorship for all students allocated to the team.

·       To provide care co-ordination of complex cases and provide clinical guidance on case management

·       With the appropriate training offer Family Interventions to service users and their families as per Early Intervention in Psychosis Access and Wait Time standard

·       To undertake appraisal and ensure training needs are met and all training opportunities are explored to ensure ongoing skill mix within the team based on changing requirements of the service.

·       To act as budget signatory ensuring appropriate financial controls in the absence of the Clinical Manager, eg. HealthRoster and Invoicing.

·       To ensure effective lines of communication and good networking exist both within EPUT and our wider community partners invested in the delivery of safe services in the local health economy.

·       To develop cohesive links with Primary Care and carers and families.

·       To deputise for the Clinical Manager in their absence as directed, including, in their absence, providing support and advice to the At Risk Mental State Team also covering Mid Essex.

·       On a daily basis manage all the referrals coming into the service effectively, providing appropriate allocation in a timely manner to facilitate meeting the 14 day referral to treatment target and ensuring that appropriate consideration is made to MDT members.

·       Develop innovative practice and encouraging collaborative working with MDT members to deal creatively with service demands, allocations and monitoring of KPI’s and Access and Wait Time Standards and caseload management.

·       Participate in audit and research.

·       Identify, assess and manage clinical and non-clinical risks/hazards in your area through completion of the relevant risk assessments.
