The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable. 

 

Job overview

The post is advertised as a band 7. However, applicants who do not currently meet the skills and competences for the band 7 role, are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under annex 21 rules supported by a development plan for 3 years.

Do you have an interest in pain management and want to improve patient care? 

We will provide mentorship, education and strive to improve your practice and knowledge.  

The post holder will be part of the Musculoskeletal Early Intervention Service who care for outpatients with musculoskeletal pain (of 18 months duration or less) who are based at Chirk Hospital.  We are an MDT Service.

Main duties of the job

The ability to assess complex needs of patients using the biopsychosocial model.  The post holder will work independently and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, using evidence based practice within  the area of speciality.   The ability to lead, motivate and develop others in pain management.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • Post registration experience working either within the clinical speciality or relevant post qualifying nursing role
  • Working towards or commitment to working towards a relevant post-graduate degree to be completed within an agreed timeframe
  • Diploma level training or demonstrable CPD in speciality area or relevant post qualifying nursing role
Desirable criteria
  • Obtained or working towards relevant post graduate degree in pain management
  • Demonstrates ability to support the development of nursing standards and quality initiatives
  • Demonstrates teaching, mentoring and assessing skills
  • Module or qualification in pain management
  • Demonstrate involvement in research that has changed nursing practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and credibility as a professional resource in pain management e.g link nurse or related specialist area
  • Networking effectively in area of specialty/practice or related specialist area
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate evidence based nursing advice to a Multi-disciplinary Team
  • Post registration practice within defined scope of clinical speciality/practice or related specialist aera

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate skills in nursing leadership e.g management of a ward/team/caseload
  • Ability to assess complex needs of patient relevant to speciality practice
  • Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team using evidence practice in area of speciality or related specialist area
  • Initiate health promotion activities to encourage productive health behaviours and foster the strengths and potential of patients and staff.
  • Be a professional leader and role model with proven ability to inspire, motivate and develop others in areas of speciality
  • IT skills, eg microsoft, word
  • Be champions for and promote the profession of nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Health board clinical databases eg PIMS, WPAS
  • Apply speciality assessment skills, initiate appropriate clinical interventions and evaluate outcomes in area of practice
  • Undertaken a post qualification prescribing course
  • Demonstrates ability to advise on use of prescription medications including analgesics

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Current issues for nursing and health in Wales
  • Current government policies, codes, guidelines and legislation impacting on pain management including local and national pain guidelines
  • Current nursing professional standards and codes
  • BCUHB objectives and goals
