Band 6 Senior Theatre Practitioner – General Scrub

A role in an innovative and dynamic team with development opportunities working within a friendly and supportive learning environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity with huge potential to develop and progress working within a motivated and enthusiastic team within Theatres at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

We currently have 13 Theatres throughout the hospital supporting specialisms such as Orthopaedics, Colorectal, ENT, Urology, Gynaecology and Upper GI. The successful candidate is required to rotate throughout a number of our surgical specialisms for their role.

We deliver exemplary patient care resulting an excellent patient experience. Patient safety is at the forefront of our practice and it is widely recognised that our theatre practitioners play a vital role in our patient pathway.

In return, we offer a number of comprehensive, internal and external development opportunities and support for career progression. If applicable to skill sets held, Dual roles will also be considered within Scrub and Anaesthetics.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people with an aspiration to learn and develop, to join our inspirational team. In applying for this position, candidates should demonstrate effective leadership skills, ability to efficiently manage theatre list and promote patient safety as a priority.

The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of practice with excellent communication, clinical and decision making skills. The post holder will act as a role model, to facilitate and participate in teaching, act as, and support mentorship and preceptorship to junior members of the Theatre Team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse/HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Teaching & Assessing course or active on the mentor database
  • Post registration course relevant to peri-operative area
  • Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to area
  • Knowledge of local policies/procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of national strategies related to sphere of nursing/midwifery and current professional nursing issues
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in relevant clinical/professional subject
  • Management qualification
  • PALS/APLS knowledge of leadership and management theories

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Extensive experience in Theatre
  • Management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking research work/audit work and standard setting

  • Advanced clinical skills/knowledge relevant to area of expertise
