Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 pre assessment nurse in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The pre-assessment team are passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. We believe that by investing in our staff that they will deliver better care to our patients and help create and contribute to a work environment that makes it safe and effective to work in.

Main duties of the job

In order to be successful in this post you will need to be an individual that is able to work autonomously, mange your own case load of patients work closely with other staff from all disciplines to ensure a sufficient and effective service. 

You will need to be able to demonstrate that you understand the role and purpose of pre assessment and have experience of working in a pre-op environment. Qualifications and/or knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC registered ODP
  • Willingness to undergo further specialist training (Bangor University pre-assessment module. HEA-475 clinical examination module at level 6 degree).
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship course
  • Nursing Diploma/Degree
  • ODP diploma/degree
  • Teaching and assessing or 998 course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a relevant field or clinical area.
  • Experience of time management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Working autonomously within agreed protocols
  • Willingness to develop specialist clinical skills including thorough cardio-respiratory examination and detailed medical history taking
  • Perform clinical examination incorporating inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation
  • Perform clinical procedures e.g. spirometry, ECG, venepuncture analysis
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate complex medical issues with all members of the multi disciplinary team referring where appropriate
  • Ability to initiate and implement change ensuring effective service delivery
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to adapt to and propose changes within the working environment
  • Proficient in IT skills (Excel, e-mail, Word, WPAS, Radis, ICE, WCP)
  • Welsh speaking
  • Ability to lead and develop nurse/ODP led practice
