Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the team on Downton Ward for an 8 month secondment. This role would suit a dynamic and forward thinking quality focused ward manager with a strategic view of improving the experience and care general surgical patients.

Downton is a 24 bedded Acute General Surgical Ward incorporating a broad spectrum of specialties such as colorectal, upper and lower GI and gynae ENT and urology.

Excellent multi-disciplinary working is essential as this area relies on collaborative working and clear communication with medical staff and specialty teams.

The post holder will be able to demonstrate solid surgical nursing knowledge and skills. 

Main duties of the job

As the ward leader you will be responsible for your workforce plan, annual skill mix review, service development plan and budget management. You will be responsible for the learning and development of all staff and students within the ward with a strong focus on the development of practical requirements of delivering compassionate and competent care. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities that constantly reinforce the Trust values and beliefs. You will complete regular audits on the ward, review these results and implement action plans when required.
