An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Spinal injuries Treatment Centre for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team.
As a regional spinal centre we look after people from across the south west of England from their initial injury, into their rehab journey to a home setting and then support them throughout the remainder of their lives. Our inpatients range from fully ventilated patients requiring 1:1 care to patients admitted for 12-24 hour short assessments and everything in between. Working with our service users to enable them to live as independently as possible, overcoming physical, mental and social challenges creates a really unique and hugely rewarding opportunity for any registered nurse.
You will undertake training within the specialty to enable you to deliver the same high quality care we aim to provide. There will also be opportunities for you to develop your own practice with advanced roles available in specialist nursing, with both respiratory and spinal expertise, acute outreach, outpatients, education and leadership roles.
Main duties of the job
To look after patients with spinal cord injury supporting them in their mental and physical rehabilitation. This will consist of:-
• assessing and evaluating appropriate care is delivered to patients. You will be mindful of standards at all times and if you have concerns you will know how manage them or to raise them to the Senior Sister or DSN.
• Create and utilise opportunities to promote the health and well-being of your patients, clients and groups.
• Undertake and document a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of your patients, clients and communities.
• Formulate and document a plan of nursing care, where possible in partnership with your patients, clients, their carers and family and friends, within a framework of informed consent.
Based on the best available evidence, apply knowledge and an appropriate range of skills indicative of safe nursing practice
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team including Physio and Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Medical Teams, Respiratory Specialists, Pressure Clinic, Urology, Tissue Viability, Anticoagulation, Dieticians, Podiatry, Spinal injuries Association, Other Acute Trusts and care providers inc Social Care.
