Salisbury Foundation Trust are delighted to be recruiting for a new Band 6 position in their Children's Outpatient Department.

We are looking for a highly experienced and knowledgeable children's asthma nurse to work as part of our paediatric multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will participate in leading, managing and developing a person-centred approach to caring for children and young people living with asthma and other respiratory conditions. 

The post holder will work with children and their families, to understand and manage their health and wellbeing. The role requires teaching registered and non-registered health professionals, alongside patients/families/ carers to understand their health condition.  

The aim of the role is to enable reduced hospital admissions and length of stay, having a positive influence on children and young people living with asthma. 

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Children and Young Persons Respiratory Nurse you will provide assessment and treatment to children and their families during respiratory clinics and following hospital attendances. 

The role will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high quality care within current local and national guidelines, including the delivery of personalised asthma action plans and participating in the completion and interpretation of respiratory diagnostics. 

The post holder will delivery training to colleagues, in association with practice educators, in the management of respiratory conditions, including childhood asthma.

The post holder will have significant paediatric experience, alongside completion of Asthma Care for CYP (T3/4).  They will role model identified Trust values and maintain compliance of national quality standards.

Essential criteria
  • Current RN child registration - Degree or evidence of working at level (6 or 7).
  • Registered on part 8 or 215 of the NMC register.
  • Completion of Asthma Care for CYP, Tier 3
  • Evidence of post registration CPD
  • Provision of children’s nursing to children with respiratory conditions and illness.
  • Evidence of working in an acute paediatric setting
  • Confidence in delivering health and wellbeing promotion for children and young people.
  • Confidence in applying good safeguarding practice to all children and young people.
  • Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the role.
  • IT competencies to deliver the role
  • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Leadership - Flexibility, creativity and motivation towards service developments
  • Ability to assess and treat patients with complex needs and formulate appropriate treatment plans and solutions.
  • Using evidenced based nursing practice and engagement in research.
  • Skilled in organising resources and establishing priorities.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent Communication Skills
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post registration qualification in education and/or mentorship
  • Completion of Asthma Care for CYP, Tier 4
  • Completion and interpretation of paediatric spirometry course
  • Working toward independent prescribing
  • Delivery of teaching to other professions.
  • Working in community or primary care setting or collaboration with professions in these settings.
  • Experience in Quality Improvement projects or change initiatives.
  • Membership of a network of paediatric respiratory or asthma nurses (NPRANG) and SPRiNG (Southern Paediatric Respiratory interest Group).
  • Responsive and flexible attitude and approach
  • Evidence of recent post registration training relevant to paediatric respiratory.
  • Awareness of the Government’s priorities for social services and NHS partnership working and NHS changes and their effect on delivery of patient care
  • Completion, or intention to complete, a Leadership course.
