Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to lead the gynaecology outpatient service. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the Gynaecology Outpatient departments at Calderdale and Huddersfield.
Acting as a professional role model and skilled practitioner responsible for all aspects of patient centred care. To support in providing an excellent patient experience by leading and coordinating the team.
The post holder will be expected to work across both hospital sites and will include some occasional weekend working.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for the operational management of the Gynaecology Outpatient Service on a day-to-day basis.
- Contribute proactively to directorate planning for the development of alternatives for service provision.
- To participate in the delivery of waiting list targets working with the MDT.
- Provide high quality patient focused service in line with operational plans.
- To provide a cost effective, efficient, and quality service within agreed resources.
- To ensure that the Outpatient workforce is kept informed of all relevant issues relating to the delivery of the service.
- To develop effective communication systems for staff, patients and carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical/Professional Responsibilities
- To Practice at all times within appropriate code of Conduct
- Maintain own professional development in accordance with NMC and life-long learning
- Responsible for own professional development and is prepared to undertake additional training if required for the post. Agrees own personal, professional, and service objectives according to individual performance review with Matron.
- To provide expert guidance and clinical supervision aiding problem solving and decision making
- To act as an innovative and enthusiastic role model, providing leadership, guidance, and advice to staff on operational and professional issues. To promote an open, honest, and transparent culture
- To ensure all nursing care is delivered in accordance with Trust procedures, guidelines and policy to ensure that the policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by all members of the department
- Ensure the provision of excellent infection control practices as defined by national recommendations and local policies and maintenance of high standards of cleanliness throughout. Managerial Duties

- To assist in the prompt resolution of complaints. To participate in the investigation of incidents/complaints as required, including preparing detailed reports/letters to complainants.
- Undertake Appraisals for team members.
- Lead on the recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust policy, within own area.
- Attend and participate in the Gynaecology Forum and appropriate meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
- Utilise information systems to plan and forecast future needs and ensure appropriate action.
- Monitor sickness, absence and competence issues, and implement Trust policies e.g. managing ill health, capability.
- Ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, including promoting a ‘no blame’ culture in order that incidents and near misses are reported

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
Essential criteria
- First Level Registered General Nurse
- Degree in Health Care
- Mentorship qualification/experience
- Evidence of Teaching and Assessing qualification/experience
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Essential criteria
- Should demonstrate and have experience in an Outpatient setting
- Knowledge skills and competency working at senior nurse level
- Evidence of teaching experience
- Willingness to undertake further personal and professional development/training
- Must be highly computer literate
Desirable criteria
- Experience specifically in Gynaecology nursing
- Evidence in taking responsibility and managing patients at different points through their journey
- Evidence of developing nursing practice within a clinical outpatient setting
- Experience of implementing policies and procedures
