Job overview

We are seeking an experienced nurse to apply for the post of Junior Sister / Charge Nurse position in the Endoscopy Unit at Airedale General Hospital.

You should have substantial years post registration experience, with appropriate experience within an endoscopy setting.

You should be dynamic, energetic and committed to the speciality. You will need to have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to take on this role. You should also be able to demonstrate experience and proven project management skills, evidence of maintaining standards and leadership within the clinical setting. Providing excellent nursing care should be a priority ensuring that high standards are continually maintained and developed further as practice develops/changes.

This role is also about developing others so you should enjoy working with, motivating and encouraging junior members of the team, helping to develop new skills and confidence. You will be fully supported by the current team of nurses and healthcare assistants within the unit and the Unit Senior Sister.

This post will be a challenge, but for those who have the right strengths and motivators it's energising, rewarding and will be extremely enjoyable.

Main duties of the job

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will care for patients during your shift, co-ordinate the unit and support your junior colleagues, acting as a role model at all times.

You will co-ordinate the unit dealing with referrals as they come in and organise placement of acute patients.  The day can pose many challenges but this helps make the post more rewarding as your problem solving comes into play.

You will support the Unit Senior Sister, working as a member of the senior team on the unit displaying excellent leadership skills and working in line with unit policies and pathways.

You will continuously monitor and ensure quality and safety for our patients and will be actively involved in answering any concerns, complaints, and complete investigation reports through incident reporting/review.

You will participate in the on call rota for Endoscopy providing an out of hours service for the hospital.

You will support nursing students while they are on placement in the unit.

Essential criteria
  • RN with current registration
  • Demonstrate professional post-registration development in clinically related subject
  • Evidence of competency in teaching and assessing
Desirable criteria
  • First level degree of working towards degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial band 5 experience within an endoscopy setting
  • Evidence of leadership in practice
  • Evidence of ongoing learning and development
Desirable criteria
  • Can demonstrate the use of audit to improve quality
  • Evidence of CPD relevant to speciality

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of endoscopy
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, for GRS and JAG
  • Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Competent in performing clinical endoscopy skills and therapeutic procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of leadership skills and the provision of an environment which encourages empowerment.
  • Demonstrate positive verbal and written communication skills with multidisciplinary team / client / relatives.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage and implement change
