Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Nurse/Diabetes Nurse to join our small, dedicated diabetes team to deliver specialist advice, education and services at Airedale NHS Hospital Foundation Trust.

It is an opportunity for someone with an enthusiasm for diabetes and a wish to extend their knowledge in this field. The successful candidate will work alongside and be supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Dietitians and Podiatrists.

Main duties of the job

Providing safe care to patients in line with NICE guidelines and other local and national guidance relevant to role.

Provide comprehensive evidence-based specialist clinical care, training and consultancy to both people with diabetes and other professionals providing care, in a range of settings including the diabetes centre, GP practices patients’ homes and other care settings.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner with access to advice and support from senior colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse
  • Teaching/assessor/mentor qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post qualification study at Master level

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Thorough understanding of the NHS Constitution and its implications
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience working with dose adjustment protocols or similar
  • Knowledge of national and local diabetes clinical practice guidelines
  • Problem solving complex clinical / care issues
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership course/qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Practice within guidelines and protocols to ensure deliver of high quality diabetes care
Desirable criteria
  • Previous diabetes experience
  • Experience is delivering teaching programmes.
