Staff Nurse (Band 5)
Day Surgery/ELIPSE unit (Ward 20/B16)
We have an excellent opportunity for qualified Band 5 Staff Nurses to join the Day surgery Team.
We are very proud of the high level of care we provide to our patients which is reflected in our patient feedback.
We provide pre and post-operative care to patients undergoing General Surgery, Urology, Dental, ENT, Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Cardiology, Vascular and Breast Surgery, acute surgical and trauma patients. We also treat patients under the care of the Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Neurological Teams.
Presently the ward opens 07:00 – 20:00 hrs Monday to Friday ( Saturday working may be required)
As the successful applicant you will have experience working within an acute hospital setting, be adaptable, able to work in a fast paced environment and be able to meet changing working patterns and caseload, working independently as well as within the team. You will have good IT skills.
You will enjoy good support and supervision with the ward team have a commitment to CPD along with the opportunity to work with our friendly and enthusiastic team.

The successful applicant will be expected to work variable shifts. Staff must be flexible with shifts to enhance the care we provide
Main duties of the job
1. Ability to caseload manage and prioritise workload.
2. Maintain a high standard of patient care as Named Nurse
3. Be aware of current developments in clinical practice. Participate and assist in research at ward level.
4 Be accountable for personal nursing practice having responsibility for nurse led discharge pf patients against set protocols
5. Act as mentor / assessor to students and Health Care Support Workers within the requirements of NMC. Act as a role model for junior staff.
6. Undertake training as required in respect of the extended role ie. intravenous cannulation, drug administration, venepuncture male/ female catheterisation
7. Maintain custody of controlled drugs, administering, checking and maintaining ward stock
8. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team. ensuring good two way communication between nursing and medical staff
9. Undertake study to continue professional development
