Job overview

Spectrum is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Practitioner to join our team at Barnsley Integrated Sexual Health Service. We are a dedicated team with a strong commitment to delivering a high-quality, evidence-based  sexual health. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality, evidence-based sexual health care.
  • Managing complex genitourinary (GU) and contraception cases.
  • Offering support and care for patients referred through our Outreach Provision.
  • Collaborating with the team to continuously improve our service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Formal qualifications from the  BASHH and the FSRH.
  • Experience in contraception (Including LARC) and sexually transmitted infection management.
  • Consideration will be given to applicants who have completed either the FSRH Diploma or the BASHH STIF qualification.
  • Ideally,  completed non-medical prescribing course, or be willing to undertake this.

Main duties of the job

Working within Integrated Sexual health your position would involve being an integral part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver high quality care to patients who have diverse sexual health and contraception needs. You would focus on promoting a positive attitude towards sexual health, fostering open communication and reducing stigma around sexual health issues.

Responsibilities include:

Providing expert clinical care, advice, and support to patients on various sexual health concerns, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraceptive options.   

Educating patients on safe sex practices, prevention of STIs, and effective use of contraception. You will advocate for an informative approach to sexual health,  to empower patients to take control of their sexual wellbeing.

Working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.

Staying current with the latest research and guidelines in sexual health to ensure that the care provided is based on the best available evidence.

Focusing on the individual needs of each patient, providing a confidential and non-judgmental environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their sexual health concerns. Taking into consideration lifestyle, sexual orientation & cultural aspects of the patient group.

Person specification

Registered Nurse

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • 5 GCSE A-C
  • Holds either DFSRH or BASHH STIF Intermediate or equivalent experience
  • Post Graduate or equivalent experience/portfolio evidence in SH
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical Prescriber
  • LOC Intrauterine Techniques
  • Cervical Screening
  • LOC IUD
  • Teaching qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to effectively assess, treat and evaluate patients with sexual health needs.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of confidentiality
  • A good understanding of the National Sexual Health Agenda
  • Knowledge/understanding of Safeguarding procedures YP & vulnerable patients

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 5 (or equivalent) in Sexual Health Nursing
  • Experience of Nurse led clinics
  • Experience in contacting and discussing test results with patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in making appropriate patient referrals to other specialist teams.
  • experience as Band 6 practitioner with relevant NMC registration
