Job overview

Working as a clinician within the neurodevelopmental pathway in the Brighton and Hove area

Independently and as a team providing assessments for children with neurodevelopmental presentations, specifically ADHD and autism. 

Attending clinical forums to report back on these assessments and to work as part of team in deciding outcomes.

This post offers the Trust's £2,000 Golden Hello or Relocation Incentive for Band 5-6 Nurses & Practitioners, (pro rata and subject to terms and conditions; please see attached Protocol Document for full details).

Main duties of the job

To complete ADHD/ASC assessment reports

Attend MDT and other clinical forums

Screen/triage new referrals  

Attend non-clinical team meetings when appropriate and required such as the business meeting.   

Ensure all clinical documentation is completed in a timely fashion 

Risk assessment and care planning for young people and their families 

Feeding back outcome of assessments and proposed treatment plans (ADHD only) to families 

Provide supervision and clinical leadership for junior clinicians within the team. 

Make onward referrals to other agencies  such as social services

Ensure high quality communication with referrers and associated agencies such as GP, social services  

Contribute to clinical audits

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1.    To develop & maintain specialist clinical skills and expertise in the assessment of young people referred to CAMHS via SPOA for assessment of ADHD/ASC

2.    To offer advice on management of patients with mental health issues and non organically based physical symptoms.

3.    To ensure assessment, care and support of each client is appropriate to individual needs.

4.    To feed back outcome of assessment to the referrer and agree care and risk plans.

5.    To ensure that children and young people requiring further assessment and help are referred on appropriately.

6.    To provide consultation to other professionals regarding mental health issues in relation to young people and their families

7.    To know how to access appropriate services and develop effective networks and channels of communications.

8.    To adhere to relevant code of Professional Conduct.

9.    To attend case conferences & meetings as relevant to the job description.

Work in accordance with Sussex Partnership Foundation NHS and East Sussex Hospital trusts’ policies, guidelines and protocol.

To ensure care plans and risk plans are valid

To participate in individual professional supervision

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration [mental health/LD/Adult], appropriate to the job role
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualifying experience in the relevant care group
  • Experience of working alongside people with complex health problems in the designated care group
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of providing a range of clinical interventions to people in the designated care group with a variety of health problems
