Senior Occupational Therapist
NHS AfC: Band 6
Come and join us
We're looking for people who share our values (compassion, accountability and optimism) to help us provide high quality care to the patients, carers, families and local communities we serve. We specialise in providing NHS mental health and learning disability services.
So what can we offer you in return?
We're an organisation which puts people first. We'll do everything possible to help you feel respected, valued and included. We'll help you learn, acquire new skills and gain further experience to support your career development. And we'll provide the opportunity for you to bring your fresh ideas to work about how we can do things differently and continue improving.
You will also be joining a health and care system committed to working together to do the best we can for the communities we serve. Above all, at Sussex Partnership you'll have the chance to make a difference to the lives of the patients, carers and families across our communities.
As a Trust we are committed in making a difference. Your development is important to us, so don't forget to ask us during interview what opportunities we can offer. We can offer fully funded lifelong learning opportunities such as an apprenticeship from GCSE to Masters level.
If you like the sound of that, then come and join our team.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 or 6 Occupational Therapist/Specialist Occupational Therapist with a passion for working in the community to join our developing Neighbourhood Mental Health Team at Mill View Hospital, in Hove. We are a friendly and welcoming multi-disciplinary team, which works with a range of different mental health issues. Based in the culturally diverse and creative city of Brighton and Hove, this is the ideal team in which to grow and develop professionally!
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist/Senior Occupational Therapist with experience of working with people with complex mental health conditions in a relevant setting. As part of the role you will be offering your professional input into the multi disciplinary team, by carrying out specific occupational therapy assessments as well as holding a small caseload. This can include for those needing specific Occupational Therapy Interventions, or general complex mental health needs. As part of the Occupational Therapy structure you will receive professional supervision and be able to access regular CPD sessions and training.
The successful applicant will develop their skills in carrying out assessments, formulating plans and managing a diverse caseload of service users, while maintaining high standards of documentation. The service is looking to appoint somebody who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative and resourceful, and who has a passion for working with people and for developing good working relationships with carers. You will have the opportunity to forge close links with the third (voluntary) sector, as well as with other specialist teams within the Trust. This is a really exciting time to join our team as we move into Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams and work much more closely with our colleagues in Primary Care and the third sector.
Working for our organisation
While previous experience of working in the community is desirable, a full training package and an induction to meet your needs will be available. Sussex Partnership believes learning can help make our services safer, more effective and more compassionate. We will consider a band 5 Occupational Therapist with relevant experience and transferable skills to work on your preceptorship, while we support you in the early stages of your career. In those circumstances, you will benefit from working with a capped caseload, which will be varied and interesting, so you have the opportunity to complete high quality work.
This is an exciting and diverse role working with a whole range of different mental health presentations. Consider our team to be a place to embed your learning, broaden your skills and develop your career!
The service operates Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. The role will involve working from the team base, and across Brighton & Hove as required, with some flexibility around home working, dependent on the needs of the service. We know that a positive work/ life balance brings about huge health-related benefits, which has a beneficial impact on the care we provide. Please speak to us about flexible working - If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen.
