Job overview

The role of a Band 6 Charge Nurse on Ash ward involves sound application of leadership qualities, and a high standard of nursing skills and practice. It will also include supporting junior staff with supervision, working closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and role modelling. The role centres around supporting the management team by undertaking governance checks on the wards such as clinical audits and taking the lead in clinical areas. We pride ourselves with the high standard of care delivered to people that have been detained by the Ministry of Justice and/or sentenced to a hospital order or for assessment of their mental health needs. 

This post offers the Trust's £4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of £8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Main duties of the job

The role also is supporting the management team by undertaking governance checks on the wards such as clinical audits and taking the lead in clinical areas. The main duties will include overseeing the delivery of treatment and care and the assessment of patients and their most appropriate pathway of care; alongside the assessment and formulation of treatment plans and risk related planning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Band 6 charge Nurse

The role of a Band 6 Charge Nurse on Ash ward will involve sound application of leadership skills, and include supporting junior staff with supervision, working closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and role modelling. The role also is supporting the management team by undertaking governance checks on the wards such as clinical audits and taking the lead in clinical areas. whilst in role and whilst working alongside your fellow professionals you will use modern nursing models and framework to guide your practice. Open dialogue will help you to build essential relationships with the friends and families of our service users. Whilst working in unison with the MDT you will be tasked with monitoring and recording the progress and recovery of patients.

Whilst promoting the recovery of the individual you will be accessing the most up to date evidence based practice to support and underpin your practice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification
  • Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualifying experience relevant to the care group
  • Experience of working alongside people with severe mental health problems particularly in their acute phase of illness
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non statutory teams and agencies
  • Experience of working within the CPA process
  • Understanding of clinical governance
