We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent leadership skills and recent resuscitation and core skills training experience at Band 7 level who also has knowledge and understanding of educational frameworks to lead the Resuscitation and Manual Handling education teams. This person should also be highly skilled in the delivery of education across the multi and inter professional agendas. 

The successful candidate will provide leadership of the Resuscitation and Manual Handling education teams and lead on the design, development and delivery of resuscitation and manual handling education programs alongside subject matter experts and will support and deliver the accredited course agenda.

Main duties of the job

The Resuscitation Lead has leadership and management responsibility for the on-going development and sustainability of high quality and innovative resuscitation and manual handling education for the Trust.

The Resuscitation Lead will support the Head of Practice Education to lead and shape the Trusts resuscitation and manual handling education approach, providing oversight and promoting a positive and supportive learning, education, and workforce development culture.

This role will lead on building and embedding a resuscitation and manual handling, education and workforce development framework.

Delivering an inclusive portfolio of resuscitation and manual handling learning, education and development that supports the Trusts future direction. 

 

The post holder will develop, implement and promote the Trusts Manual Handling policies.

Working with key decision makers in the Trust and providing support to the Head of Practice Education in the development and implementation of the People Plan, NHS Long term workforce plan and resuscitation and manual handling service development/ improvement plans in line with Trust vision and values.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Quality and Performance

·         Robustly reviewing key performance measures and reporting frameworks in line with strategic aims. 

·         Leading the achievement of key performance targets and contractual obligations including SLAs, CQC, Core Skills Training Framework England, meeting legislation, policies and procedures for all resuscitation and manual handling education services. 

·         Contributing to the monitoring and reviewing of business performance within resuscitation and manual handling education, reporting on performance internally and externally to the Trust, instigating remedial action where necessary. 

·         Monitor, evaluate and develop resuscitation and manual handling education services. 

·         Provide resuscitation and manual handling education and training within the framework of all educational contracts, supporting trust employees across the organisation to provide comprehensive services and to plan, deliver and evaluate teaching activities.

·         Ensure data collection and reporting processes for quality purposes and evidence and systems for robust reporting for education governance and quality assurance.

·         Manage Datix reports and investigations relevant to resuscitation and manual handling incidents to promote learning.

·         Acts as an accredited course instructor and director for RCUK Courses, ensuring all course regulations are met and the Trust meets requirements for the 4 yearly Course Center Assessment.

  Patient Safety/Governance   

·         Implementation and monitoring of appropriate governance and risk systems, ensuring that resuscitation and manual handling education services adhere to the Trust Risk Management policy and procedures, reporting and proactively finding solutions to address risk, monitoring progress on mitigation plans. 

·         Supporting a learning organisational culture to review risk, learning from incidents and near misses, by leading a solution focused approach to review, ensuring that lessons are learned and shared. 

·         To support the implementation of the Trust’s Clinical Governance, Health and Safety and Risk Management policies relevant to resuscitation and manual handling education and actively participate in governance activities to ensure that the highest standards of training and education are in place, working to ensure the Trust operates in an effective, honest, and open way.

·         Develop and implement resuscitation and manual handling education policies and procedures, aligned to national guidance.

·         To actively participate in the Trust’s Governance and Quality review meetings to establish education and development needs through “Learning from Incidents”.

·         To act as the Trust subject specialist expert for resuscitation clinical practice, attending clinical emergency 2222 calls to ensure maintenance of clinical competencies.

·         Support clinical staff in hot and cold debrief following clinical emergencies.

·         Providing support for Trust PSIRF measures, in relation to resuscitation and manual handling issues.

·         Provide expert support to the Trust Resuscitation Committee Chair, ensuring that the activity aligns to the RCUK Standards.

·         Take responsibility for the Trust Resuscitation committee’s secretariat function, taking and disseminating minutes of meetings and advising on operational and educational matters relating to resuscitation.

·         Encouraging a climate that allows staff and learners to question and redefine how their work is undertaken ensuring the on-going development of patient centred care, staff and learner experience, and cost-effective use of resources. 

·         Redefining future orientated staff and learner pathways to improve standards of education, address governance issues, improve efficiency and income. 

·         Leading on the project management of service developments to ensure key targets are achieved, including cross cutting themes and pathways, contributing to the delivery of transformational work streams.

·         Providing clinical and educational expertise to the Trust learning panels to ensure appropriate spend and accountability for the CPD finances within the Trust.

·         Provide effective management to individuals and teams within sphere of responsibility, leading accountable members of staff to implement on-going change and development.

·         Apply Trust People and Workforce policies and practices for staff e.g. recruitment, employee relations, appraisals, and individual performance reviews etc.

·         Provide specialist knowledge of the resuscitation and manual handling education service and senior management support to all staff within the  team, specifically for the Resuscitation Officers and Manual Handling Tutor post holders.

·         Responsible for day-to-day management and promotion of all aspects of the resuscitation and manual handling education service functions.

·         Ensuring that research, audit, data, and information are used to shape and influence strategic direction for the resuscitation and manual handling education service, and directly influences decision making prior to developing business cases, submitting bids and plans. 

·         Ensuring that on-going quality, innovation, and service improvement plans are underpinned by a strong evidence base for improving patient, staff, and learner outcomes and/or patient, staff and learner experience, and in line with service strategies and business plans.

Qualification(s) and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • First degree or equivalent professional, academic qualification
  • Educated to level 7 or MSc equivalent.
  • Holds current / active Professional Registration with NMC / HCPC
  • Sustained record of continuous professional development
