Job overview

The Clinical Review Officer will work as a senior member of the Clinical Review Team, based within the portfolio of Acute Services. The Team delivers a range of comprehensive clinical reports to meet commissioner targets for placement reviews and the Trust’s rehabilitation and repatriation agendas. The post involves taking a lead role in organising and undertaking specialist clinical assessments as an autonomous practitioner.

The post-holder will also have responsibility for directing and supervising the work and skill development of the Clinical Review Team to meet the changing needs of the service. This will include providing management and leadership, service development and ensuring that all organisational systems and governance processes are in place, adhered to and monitored.

The post holder may be required to act up in the absence of the senior clinical manager and to undertake delegated responsibilities as required.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical assessment and formulation of the care pathway for a range of complex individuals in a variety of settings e.g. out of area placements including forensic services, rehabilitation and acute settings, nursing and residential homes. This will involve using the Reviewing Assessment Framework documentation and associated governance and panel processes

To develop repatriation or onward pathway plans for all those assessed within the original priority groupings received from commissioners or in other settings as mentioned above.

Demonstrate a lead liaison and information role with clinical colleagues in both acute, rehabilitation and community settings, as well as working with placement providers both in and out of the local area to ensure safety, quality and best value.

The role will be underpinned by a clear understanding of and commitment to least restrictive principles and recovery and there will be an expectation of knowledge/application of relevant legal frameworks and legislation e.g. The Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the DOLs/Best Interests agendas

The post holder will be a resource of enhanced clinical knowledge and competence in the service area. Part of this will involve modelling the required standards and supporting others to achieve them and will include providing supervision both formal and informally to individuals and groups as required and to maintain appropriate records.

The post holder will:
Be required to work in an agile manner in response to the needs of the service.
Be regularly required to use a computer.
Be regularly exposed to unpleasant working conditions i.e. verbal aggression, high dependency/secure service areas
In order to support this, the post holder will be required to have a current full driving licence and be a car owner/driver.

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Professional Qualification i.e RMN, OT, RNLD
  • Specialist expertise across a range of procedures, Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma Specialist clinical/managerial training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in Acute Mental health care setting
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge gained within a similar environment over a significant period of time
  • Significant experience of risk assessment and positive risk management
  • Proven experience of managing a multi -disciplinary team

Other

Essential criteria
  • Must have full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle for business use
