Job overview
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust provide emergency services at our purpose built Minor Injuries Unit based at UHCW and also at our Urgent Treatment Centre based at St Cross Hospital in Rugby and City of Coventry Health Centre. All sites have dedicated facilities and allocated staff to provide care 7 days a week 24 hours a day. The Emergency Care practitioner within the Minor Injuries Unit/Urgent Treatment Centre will use specialist knowledge and skills to independently provide healthcare to a select group of patients with minor illnesses or injuries. The nurse practitioner is a clinical expert and accountable for the total episode of care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral and discharge. The nurse practitioner will undertake the role in accordance with the ED ENP Scope of Practice Framework and is supported by other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
There is an exciting opportunity to join our Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner team at University hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
We are looking to recruit senior experienced Emergency Practitioners who are able to demonstrate that they can see, treat and independently discharge both adult and child patients from our Minor Injuries Unit . As a senior member of the team you will be involved in the clinical and managerial aspects of caring for Emergency patients attending our busy department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
Using advanced history taking skills, obtains a patient history in a systematic manner including pertinent physical, social, emotional, psychological or environmental factors
Using advanced physical assessment skills, undertakes physical examination as appropriate, using techniques of observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation and percussion, including the safe use of diagnostic equipment as appropriate.
Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiology investigations in order to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings on history and physical examination and relates these findings to possible diagnosis.
Makes clinical decisions using analytical and judgmental skills to reach a diagnosis and effectively communicates the information regarding these decisions, care pathways and policy to the patients/carers and multi professional team.
Develops and implements a plan of healthcare management which will include any necessary treatment and appropriate referral for further evaluation or follow up care to any member of the multidisciplinary team. Takes clinical responsibility for the diagnosis, management and
discharge/referral/transfer of the patient and offers health promotion strategies where appropriate.
Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data. Responsible for documenting all clinical notes both computerised and paper based.
