Job overview
We are seeking an experienced Band 5 Nurse to consider developing their role by joining our team within the Paediatric Day Unit. The area supports children across both our Medical Day unit as well as our Surgical Day Unit's which are both based at UHCW. The post holder needs to be motivated, enthusiastic and have strong communication and organisational skills to support the large flow of children which the area supports on a daily basis.
The post holder will provide optimum quality of care to patients and their families who require day time procedures and care. The shifts are Monday-Friday Day shifts from 07:30-20:30. PMDU is a 5 bedded area which cares for a variety of children under the following specialities: Oncology, Haemoglobinopathy, Rheumatology and Endocrine. The area also supports medical reviews as well as blood tests. The Paediatric Surgical Day unit cares for children with a range of surgical day care needs, such as: Dental, General Surgery, ENT and many more.
Within this role you will have an opportunity to extend and enhance your Paediatric skills by working along side our skilled and experienced team of Paediatric Nurses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times, including all aspects of child protection.
- Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
- A competent practitioner, supervising/providing mentorship to a small number of learners or junior staff.
- Responsible for co-ordination and clinical assessment of a group of patients, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and carers.
- Participate in observations of care, audit and development of service to improve quality of care.
- Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including; patient observations; equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.
- Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
- Manage expected clinical events/enquiries, requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort, ensuring referral to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g in an unexpected event.
- Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
- Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
