Main duties of the job

Play is integral to the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families. The Play team at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust recognise the importance of play within our patients and family’s journey’s when they come into the hospital setting. This post will see the successful candidate use their knowledge of play and child development to ensure high quality, holistic play opportunities are provided for all children and their families across the trust, enabling them to feel safe and at ease within the hospital setting, ultimately promoting positive patient experiences. 

The Health Play Services Team Leader role for the Babies, Children and Young people at UHCW NHS Trust, is a position for someone with expert knowledge and experience of play and distraction with the well child and the sick child/young person. The post holder will be a fully integrated member of the Health Professionals Team. The Health Play Services Team Leader will manage the play specialist team, be responsible for the attendance management, appraisal, and service development. The Health Play Services Lead will also be responsible for offering advice and support regarding play and distraction across the wider Trust, ensuring equitable play provision for Babies, Children and Young People across the Paediatric Unit ensuring cover is provided during sickness, annual leave and absence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Education:
Provide training and education for learners and other relevant staff.

Provides a structured education /training package for play and students.
 
Actively participate in the development of own personal development plan and performance review.

Provide education and training to babies, children, young people and their families or carers.

Keep up to date with developments, advances within the specialty.

Promote the importance of play to all professionals including students and new staff members. 

To develop and lead teaching programmes for other play staff and other multi-disciplinary team members providing teaching packages, lesson plans and learning outcomes.
