Job overview

We are looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist into our newly established PACT pathway. An exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team, providing specialist interventions to patients with personality disorders and complex trauma.

The post holder will be required to deliver both individual and group psychotherapy. They will also be involved in the delivery of Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) and will be expected to have completed AFC MBT Accreditation as practitioner or be willing to undertake/achieve accredited status.

The role involves triaging referrals, conducting comprehensive assessments and delivering interventions. The team will work together as an MDT to be able to provide timely response to individuals who require treatment. It will involve working closely alongside colleagues with lived experience as well as those in community mental health teams.

It is essential the post holder can work in a trauma informed way and is passionate about making a difference in this area. They will receive regular supervision and relevant additional training will be provided by the service.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide a specialist psychotherapy service to people with complex emotional needs within the personality disorder and complex trauma pathway (PACT).
  2. To provide individual and group psychotherapy as appropriate.
  3. This post will involve delivery of Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) and postholder will be expected to have completed AFC MBT Accreditation as practitioner or be willing to undertake/achieve accredited status.
  4. To provide an assessment of clients referred to the psychotherapy service to ascertain and document their history.
  5. To facilitate client engagement in the treatment programme and support them in developing effective strategies to resolve or cope with their problems.
  6. To provide support in times of crisis, assessing risk in conjunction with the team and in liaison with colleagues.
  7. To provide CPA, care management; risk assessment, care planning and the implementation of clinically effective interventions to clients referred to the personality disorder service.
  8. To provide a therapy service to clients across the CWPT. This provision can be within the clients home, GP surgery or mental health service premises across the locality.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Psychotherapist (UKCP / BPC / BACP) or Core Training (RMN / OT / Social Work / Arts Therapies / Psychology / Medicine) AND demonstrable experience of providing psychologically informed treatments.
  • To have completed AFC MBT accreditation as practitioner or be willing to undertake/achieve accredited status.
  • Evidence of CPD

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical assessment skills of complex clinical presentations requiring sensitivity to unconscious processes
  • Ability to identify psychodynamic and diagnostic formulations where expert opinions may differ
  • Previous experience of working with people with personality disorder
  • Previous experience of group psychotherapy interventions
  • Evidence of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision
  • Participation in multidisciplinary team work
  • Expertise in assessing and treating patients with personality disorder

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of supervised psychotherapy with people with personality disorder
  • Recent experience in a mental health setting
