Assistant Lead Nurse; Research & Development

Band: 8a

We are looking to recruit  2  high profile, accessible and responsive leaders with managerial responsibility for clinical research service delivery and advice across several departments and specialties. Supporting the  Research and Development Department in delivering the Trust strategy for research. Able to make informed decisions within their own specialty and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met.

Main duties of the job

  1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
  2. Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service within a complex and challenging environment with often, conflicting priorities
  3. Responsible for the provision of a high quality professional research nursing and clinical delivery research service across a number of departments, promoting best practice and implementing a review process that looks at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of patients and service
  4. Contributes to development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines across a number of departments, ensuring that clinical and research governance are  embedded in practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Support the Lead Nurse of R&D with ensuring service objectives are met and deputising for lead nurse as required.

2. Responsible for the efficient management of processes e.g. complaints within research, training and development; appraisal and patient recruitment. Undertake bleep-holder responsibilities for R&D as required.

3. Utilise information and IT systems to produce accurate and timely workforce and resource data and reports.

4. Responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of projects to improve patient care and service development through the audit cycle, linking to the clinical governance and research governance frameworks and business planning process.

5.  Undertake occasional direct workload requiring moderate to high physical effort according to patient dependency or staff need.

6.  Demonstrate through effective leadership the ability to provide professional and emotional support to individuals and groups, e.g. during difficult situations or unexpected events.

7. Accountable for maintaining a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
 
8.Responsible for adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy and Divisional objectives designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from clinical and non-clinical risk and known hazards.
