An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse to provide maternity cover and join the Teenage and Young Adult Team (TYA) within the Cancer Directorate at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the role of Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This is an exciting chance to develop new skills at a band 6 level, whilst becoming part of a dynamic and expert team, leading the way in improving provision of TYA cancer care through collaborative working and shared commitment to young people with Cancer.

The TYA team provides specialist care to teenagers and young adults through all stages of the condition within an in-patient and outpatient setting. We provide a psychosocial support service alongside age-appropriate care to patients and their carers throughout the North East and Cumbria.  

The postholder will be required to work as part of the wider regional TYA Service team based at the Principal Treatment Centre (NCCC).

You should be a Registered Nurse with experience in dealing with Young Adults and have a sound knowledge of Cancer.  The post holder will establish close links with local and regional cancer services and act as a core member of the TYA MDT.   

By working with the TYA team and Site-Specific Teams you will promote a cohesive approach to developing TYA care within the region, in line with NHS service specification.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their alignment to the Trust Values and Professional Leadership Behaviors and an ongoing commitment to continuously improving the quality of the service that is delivered in addition to monitoring and maintaining standards of care. You will need to be creative, highly motivated, and willing to develop this service. You should also possess excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

We are committed to the care of young people going through a difficult time in their lives; we work very closely with Teenage Cancer Trust ensuring we treat the young person and not just the cancer.

Ability and willingness to travel is essential.
