Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate to come and work as a band 3 HCSW in a Specialist Autistic unit within the Mental Health and Learning Disability setting as directed.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 3 HCSW.
Meadow Court is situated in the Tonyrefail area of Rhondda Cynon Taff . It is a three bedded specialist autistic unit, and is part of Swansea Bay University Health Boards Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Directorate.
The successful candidate will be required to work part of a seven-day service, which includes long days, weekends, nights and bank holidays. Short shifts may also be required.
Meadow Court offers a dynamic and challenging work environment, supporting adults with severe autism and Learning Disabilities, who present with behaviours which are challenging. We aim to provide a high quality, person centred approach based on the Positive Behavioural Support model. The successful candidate must be able to communicate well with members of the mdt including families.
The candidate will need to have had experience in working with individuals with Learning Disabilities who display challenging behaviours. And ideally and some knowledge around autism.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake training such as QCF Level 3 and BTEC in Positive Behavioural Support.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum of Qualification Credit Framework – QCF Level 3 (formerly NVQ Level 3) in Health or willingness to complete in agreed timeframe
- Evidence of maintaining their personal development
- Demonstrates an understanding of the scope of the role in the context of the nursing team
- Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales
- Knowledge of the fundamentals aspects of care and the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing
- Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements
- Understands the principles of confidentiality
- Understands the principles of consent prior to undertaking care
- Understands the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe
- Understanding of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate registered professional for expert help and advice
- Understanding of the Health Board’s Values and Behaviour Framework
