Job overview
Singleton Hospital Theatre Department are currently looking to recruit a Senior Theatre healthcare assistant band 3 who has completed the Peri-operative QCF Level 3.
They are looking for hard-working, caring and motivated individuals to join us in this role. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and autonomously, must be a good communicator and have a flexible and pro-active approach to providing the best care for our patients.
The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Theatre Assistant) plays an essential role in the smooth running of Theatres providing assistance to registered staff in the delivery of a high standard of care.
If you have previous experience working within a theatre setting and have completed the peri-operative QCF level 3, we are very keen to hear from you.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a flexible approach and adaptability. As when service demands, staff are required to work across all three hospital sites, within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Main duties of the job
The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) has a greater degree of autonomy than the Healthcare Assistant and undertakes a broader range of health and care in accordance with policy and procedures. The post holder will work on their own initiative, undertaking delegated tasks with appropriate supervision in place from a registered practitioner/assistant practitioner.
The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) will assist the Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner in the assessment, on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care. Under direction of the Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner, supports appropriate individualised, clinical/risk assessments providing accurate feedback as necessary.
Deliver safe, high quality, compassionate care following individualised care plans and treatment interventions determined by the Registered Practitioner.
Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner.
Support effective theatre efficiency and flow; collect patients and escort them to theatre, checking all relevant documentation and informing registered staff where there are any deviations.

Qualification and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum of Qualification Credit Framework – QCF Level 3 (formerly NVQ Level 3) in Perioperative Support /Agored Cymru Level 3 Diploma in Perioperative Support/ or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of how to perform the non-scrubbed circulating role for perioperative procedures
- Knowledge of intraoperative patient positioning and repositioning
- Demonstrates an understanding of the scope of the role in the context of the theatre team
- Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales
- Understanding of the Health Board’s Values and Behaviour Framework
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant in an operating theatre environment
- Experience of performing circulating role in different specialties
- Experience of providing training to new Healthcare Assistant (Theatre Assistant)
