DIMENSIONS OF JOB:

Band 5 within the existing Frimley Health North Outpatient nursing team, which covers the following sites

 

► King Edwards and the Parapet - Windsor and Saint Marks Outpatient Maidenhead.

 

 

As a band 5 you will provide a 6 day service as required.

 

You will be expected to coordinate specific OPD areas, providing a visible clinical presence supporting the Senior team with the day to day running of the departments.  Providing direct focused, competent integrated clinical care, supporting students, other learners and temporary or junior staff are additional key responsibilities of the role. Ensure a high standard of care and patient experience are maintained in line with the Frimley Health Strategy, vision and Values. The post holder will typically cover 4 shifts a week covering the hours of 0800 – 18.00 or pro rata.

Currently the service runs Monday – Saturday. But the service will open on a Sunday in the near future.

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide focused integrated clinical care under direction, supporting the Registered Nurses (RN), Nurse in Charge (NiC) and the Senior team with the day to day running of the department. Supporting students and other temporary or junior staff to ensure a high standard of care and patient experience are maintained in line with the Frimley Health Strategy, vision and Values.

  • To display a visible clinical presence, supporting the OPD team to achieve a high standard of evidence-based care, procedures and treatment specific to the clinical need, working within the FH competency framework appropriate to role and scope of practice, including the use of medical devices.
  • To demonstrate a sound knowledge of the principles of infection control, including monthly hand hygiene audits adhering to the highest standards when performing aseptic technique and complying with FH Infection Control Policies at all times.
  • To ensure compliance with all FH and OPD policies and guidelines, e.g. (but not limited to) consent, chaperoning, WHO checklist, COSHH, Information Governance.
  • To work with the RN and NiC to ensure patients safe, appropriate and timely discharge from the department following interventional procedures.
  • To work closely with the senior and multi-disciplinary team ensuring excellent and effective communication is maintained

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as a member of the nursing team, under the direction of the OPD Senior team to provide the highest quality of competent, integrated nursing care and patient pathways within the department, supported by FH strategy, Values, policies and procedures.

 Ensure all patients receive safe, appropriate, competent treatment and care in accordance with local and national protocols and standards.

To deputize for department sister in their absence, if they are attending other meetings etc

To behave in a manner as laid down in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and RN competencies.

 To be a visible, professional and clinical role model for others.

 Providing leadership, inspiring others.

 To support, supervise and assess all learners, students, temporary new and junior staff within the departments.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English to GCSE Grade 4/C or above or equivalent
  • RGN with current UK NMC registration
  • Practice Assessor Practice Supervisor or equivalent
