We have an exciting job opportunity whereby we are looking to recruit additional Band 6 Junior Sister / Junior Charge nurses to help lead our team within the endoscopy unit at Wexham Park Hospital.

We form part of the Berkshire regional Bowel Cancer Screening Service which has been successfully providing the screening service in Berkshire since 2008.
We are seeking highly motivated, experienced, ambitious, and enthusiastic nurses who want to assist in the continued development of the service and ensure the delivery of high-quality endoscopy care to our patients. The successful candidate should have experience within an endoscopy unit at band 5 or above and must be able to work in an autonomous, supervisory capacity and have strong leadership skills.
The post holder will be a role model who is clinically competent. He/she will play a vital role in professional and practice development within this unit and must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach, motivate and influence others.
The endoscopy unit at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough currently operates a 7 day service, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm. We also have an emergency out of hour's Upper GI bleed service which is covered by our nurses. You will be expected to be part of the on-call GI bleed rota.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will have managerial responsibility for the Endoscopy Unit and will deputise in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse. He/she will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to the staff on the Unit and will be a recognised specialist within the field of Endoscopy.
- The post holder will have 24 hour continuing responsibility for the quality of care, cleanliness, environment and infection, prevention & control within the clinical area and will provide professional advice and support at both Unit and Directorate level.
- To implement the Trusts’ Core Values and Philosophy of nursing, ensuring they are embedded into everyday practice and evaluate their impact on the customer experience.
- To provide individualised patient care and develop/maintain standards of evidence-based care in nursing practice and policies within the Unit, monitoring progress via the ward/unit Nursing & Midwifery business balanced score card (BSC).
- To manage the work within the clinical area effectively and make the best use of resources; encouraging and leading service development accordingly. To bring in a balanced budget at the end of the financial year.
- To ensure that professional accountability is maintained in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct (2002).
- To demonstrate strong leadership skills.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN - Current first or second level NMC Registration
- Degree in Nursing or other relevant field or can demonstrate experience of working to this level
- Evidence of continuing education & professional development
- Mentor/Practice assessor qualification or equivalent
- Specialty qualification
Desirable criteria
- Management course or qualification
- Leadership course, module, or qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience within an endoscopy unit at a Band 5 or above
- Evidence of strong and effective leadership skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates/understands delivery of a balanced budget
- Experience in endoscopic pre-assessment (i.e. Bowel preparation dispensing)
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proven teaching and assessing skills
- Proven oral and written communication skills
- Able to manage difficult situations effectively and to work under pressure
- Able to prioritise and meet deadlines, working in an organised way with excellent time management skills
- IT Literate/Epic competence
- Demonstrates understanding of GRS and JAG Team player but also able to work independently
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate commitment to departmental and Trust wide initiatives / committees
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate MDT working
