Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Education & Development Team at the Royal Surrey actively seeks to innovate the delivery of training programmes, including developing and launching multi-sector training programmes for both trainee pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. You will work closely with the other members of the Pharmacy Education & Development Team in a supportive environment to further build your skills and develop your expertise in pharmacy education and development. You will have the opportunity to build relationships with stakeholders, both within the trust and regionally, to develop training programmes in line with national requirements, at an exciting time when we are in the midst of implementing the recent reforms in initial education and training standards for pharmacists.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Development, provision and evaluation of the pre-registration Foundation Trainee Pharmacist programme
• Provision and supervision of the pharmacy student training programmes
• Provision of a high quality clinical pharmacy service to the area that you have been assigned, with the opportunity to specialise and develop the service to the specialty
• To work as a member of the Pharmacy Department to ensure safe, effective, economical and timely pharmaceutical care for all patients receiving a pharmaceutical service from the department.
• Provision and supervision of the pre-registration Foundation Trainee Pharmacist programmes in line with local, regional and national frameworks
• Support the Lead Pharmacist – Education & Development in the provision and supervision of Early Career Pharmacist and undergraduate pharmacy student training programmes
• Support and supervision to less experienced pharmacists and pharmacy trainees
• Support the development, delivery and evaluation of education and training provided within the Department, within the Trust, as well as externally, to meet local, regional and national requirements
• Participation in the ‘front-line’ provision of Pharmacy Services as appropriate and when required, including clinical pharmacy service to wards or appropriate clinical areas

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Hold Masters degree in pharmacy or equivalent and 1 year pre-registration training
- Educational Supervisor Training (or willing to undertake)
Desirable criteria
- Hold Post-graduate Diploma in general pharmacy practice or equivalent experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Professional knowledge acquired through vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (4 years) or equivalent
- Post-registration hospital experience
- Good core therapeutic knowledge and clinical skills as gained through post-graduate diploma or equivalent experience
- Experience of providing a safe, effective ward based (or other equivalent) pharmacy service
- Demonstrates high level of clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning and judgement; manages difficult and ambiguous problems
- Experience of providing regular medicines information to patients and healthcare professionals
- Experience of working effectively within multidisciplinary groups
- Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development to meet GPhC requirements
- Previous experience of training/teaching/mentoring staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of training qualified and trainee staff and other health care professionals in a formal one-to-one and/or group setting
- Experience as a mentor / educational supervisor
- Knowledge of educational theory relating to teaching, learning and assessment methods and curriculum design
- Knowledge of wider NHS agenda, policies, guidance and issues, particularly relating to training & development
- Understanding of pharmacy developments involving relevant professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies
- Knowledge of regional/national health education quality frameworks and experience of e-portfolio management
- Experience conducting staff appraisals & sickness absence management
- Experience of writing protocols/policies
- Experience of liaising with external organisations
- Experience in leading and undertaking audits
- Experience with supporting trainees with special educational needs
