To provide a high standard of individualised patient care to all Children and their families attending the Children’s outpatients at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. To ensure that nursing care is evidence based and patient centered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist the Outpatients sister in the management and organisation of the nursing service within Children’s Outpatients including the teaching and management of more junior staff or those in training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Due to secondment to a more senior post, we are looking for a Band 5 Paediatric nurse to join our friendly out-patient team, on a 12 month fixed term contract. If you have recently qualified or are just looking for a change in your career, then we could be the team for you. You will be supported to develop your existing skills and develop new ones. Our supportive nursing team will support you working through a series of competencies/objectives, to develop your clinical and managerial skills.
Our department is situated at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford. Our clinics run Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We run 6 lists each morning and afternoon for a wide variety of paediatric specialities and general paediatric clinics. Some are consultant led and some are led by nurse specialists.
We are looking to cover 22.5 hours a week over 3 – 4 days. The role will involve working alongside our experienced HCA in ensuring smooth running of the day to day clinics as well as taking the lead on the Neonatal BCG vaccination clinic.
All necessary training will be provided and should the post become available long term there will be an opportunity to learn additional skills to enable support to our nurse specialists (Asthma, Allergy and Endocrine)

Essential criteria
- Registered Children’s Nurse
- Evidence of continual professional development in Paediatrics
- Teaching/Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
- Health related degree
- Post basic course/qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience in an acute or community clinical environment
- Able to demonstrate up to date knowledge in relation to providing high standards of patient care and experience
- Experience of mentoring, supervision, teaching and assessment at differing levels
Desirable criteria
- Previous Outpatient experience within the NHS
- Experience of leading a team / co-ordinating work load
