We are looking for an experienced children’s nurse with HDU and Nurse in Charge experience to work alongside and develop our clinical team, supporting preceptorship and staff working through their competency package.

Main duties of the job

Responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care without supervision.

To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the Nursing Team.

To take the lead on projects as appropriate.

In conjunction with the unit Matron and other Sister/Charge Nurses, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all nursing staff within the clinical area of responsibility.

To deputise for the unit Matron in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organized and structured workforce.

To coordinate capacity and flow throughout the unit working closely with capacity teams and the emergency department.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registrant
  • Practice Assessor or equivalent
  • Up to date with mandatory training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate considerable clinical experience post preceptorship at Band 5
  • Recent experience of supervising, assessing and supporting students and bands 2-4
  • Recent experience of supporting nursing staff in the high dependency unit
  • Recent experience as a nurse in charge within paediatrics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
  • Experience of change management

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of preregistration education
  • Completion of High Dependency Unit competency
  • Ability to support staff working in HDU
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Completion of Nurse in Charge competency
  • Ability to support staff to complete their nurse in charge competency
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
  • Ability to dealing effectively with a wide range of people
  • Flexible and aware of professional responsibility and accountability
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the NHS
  • Presentation skills
  • Facilitating simulation

  • Ability to travel between all Trust sites if required
