Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and organised candidate to manage the midwifery team based at the central call centre for SECAMB (South East Coast Ambulance) in Crawley. The manager will be expected to undertake the role as described and be part of the multi-disciplinary ICAS (integrated clinical advice service) team and provide call handling and team management for all women who are booked for maternity care at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Ashford & St Peters Hospitals and Epsom & St Helier Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Operationally responsible for the day-to-day management of the Call a Midwife line. Provide quarterly update of activity on the line to the LMNS to include learning from incidents.
Keeps the Lead Midwife from each participating Trust informed of significant changes in the day-to-day situation within his/her sphere of control and report on appropriate matters
Ensure that relevant guidelines and policies are effectively and efficiently implemented. Ensure the maximum use of all resources available within his/her control. Carry out regular audits of call quality and manage annual appraisals

This particular role is overall managed by GESH, Ashford and St Peters and Royal Surrey

Meets regularly with the lead midwife from each participating Trust to feedback performance and professional behaviour of individual staff members to support completion of their yearly appraisal

Experience
Essential criteria
- Qualified midwife with minimum 2 years experience
- Experience of conducting risk assessments
- Significant experience of working with the general public
Desirable criteria
- Customer Care NVQ or similar
Practical & Intellectual Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent computer skills
- Effective communication skills
- Understanding of Data Protection and ability to maintain strict levels of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Call centre experience, NHS 111 or Call a Midwife experience
