Job overview

Ashford and St Peter’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is every bit as special as the babies we care for.

We are the Lead level 3 NICU for Surrey and part of the Surrey, Sussex and Kent Network, providing expert care for 28 of the sickest and most complex babies using the most up to date ventilatory support techniques such as Vapotherm in the delivery room, Cooling Therapy and Nitric Oxide.

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit Band 5 nurses who are ready to work in an innovative environment where every team member makes a difference. We welcome applicants from any field or specialism of nursing. As a nurse at St Peters, you will be a role model to all your team members and your experience at any level will be valued. As a band 5 neonatal nurse you will be supported through your career journey to develop the skills and confidence to further your academic studies by doing the Neonatal Intensive Care Course at Brighton or Kingston University.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be able to work throughout the Unit caring for intensive care, 
    including ventilated babies; high dependency and special care 
    babies depending on qualification and experience.
  • To be able to work unsupervised in the Transitional Care Unit/SCU
  • To take charge of an allocated group of babies or a nursery under 
    the supervision of the nurse in charge.
  • To work effectively and efficiently with the integrated 
    multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate 
    programmes of care. 
  • To contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable and 
    stimulating learning environment for students and for the ongoing 
    development of registered and unregistered staff.
  • Following appropriate training contribute to an allocated area of 
    responsibility which may include breastfeeding, infection control 
    designated link nurse or any other area identified by Matron or 
    Team Leader.
  • This is a post that follows a shift pattern that rotates onto night ,day 
    and weekend shifts

  • RSCN/RNCB or registered Adult Nurse/Midwife
Desirable criteria
  • Special, High dependency and Intensive Care of the newborn

Experience
