Trauma Specialist Nurse

Trosolwg o'r swydd

·       To provide specialist nursing input that positively impacts on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standard of clinical practice and care as appropriate across the Trust.

·       In collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other key staff, the post holder will contribute to the day to day management of the Orthopaedic Trauma Patient, providing  specialist advice and support to service users and other members of the team

·       To provide leadership in their specialist field and be a key contributor to service redesign, research and audit.

·       Ensure care positively impacts on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice and care as appropriate across the division and Trust

·       Ensure the delivery of standards set by National guidelines for example: Royal College of Nursing Society of Trauma and Orthopaedics, BOAST, National hip fracture database, South West London and Surrey Trauma Network

·       Support staff through evidence based teaching programme to provide a high standard of orthopaedic trauma care

Assist in the delivery of the Southwest London & Surrey trauma network training and competency

1.    To develop and deliver high standards of specialised care by contributing to the development of practice to ensure that Orthopaedic Trauma patients and carers have a quality experience, reduce risk and increase safety for staff and patients.

2.    In liaison with Clinical Practice Educators, Ward Managers, Clinical Nurse Leaders and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, develop and support the professional development of staff caring for orthopaedic trauma patients

3.    Contribute to clinical governance within the Division to ensure best practice development initiatives.

4.    In liaison with the Senior Orthopaedic Trauma Nurse and Lead Clinical Practice Educator and other members of the team contribute to specialist practice development and improving nursing care and the fundamentals of care

5.    Demonstrate safe clinical decision making and high levels of holistic practice adhering to local Trust values, policies and procedures

6.    To be professionally responsible and accountable ensuring care is delivered in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct, the Trusts vision, strategic objectives and values

  1. To work autonomously; but within professional boundaries, to assess and plan clinical care, from physiological, psychological and social perspective, and working with the multidisciplinary team as necessary.
  2. Demonstrate specialist expertise and advanced clinical practice to ensure all trauma patients are appropriately cared for pre operatively including completion of necessary pre-operative investigations
  1. Leading the Trauma MDT in the absence to the Senior Specialist nurse ensuring accurate outcomes of the meeting are documented in a timely manner

 

  1. Assist in the preparation of daily trauma operating lists and liaise with other members of the MDT to ensure the lists are run efficiently, highlighting areas of concern

 

  1. Appropriately refer patients to the Fracture Liaison Service.

 

  1. Ensure excellent communication with patients, ward staff, medical teams and operating staff to ensure the smooth delivery of clinical interventions by liaising with:

·       outlying wards, ensuring patients are managed appropriately

·       other departments to facilitate smooth and timely admission from Emergency Department (ED) and fracture clinics

 

  1. Oversea and support the Senior Trauma Specialist Nurse manage the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) for the Trust and lead on monthly figures and validation checks
