Main duties of the job
We have opportunities for both experienced Band 6 Inpatient midwives, and Preceptorship midwives.

- Undertake all fundamental elements of midwifery care across a range of settings
- Shift working (Nights, Days, Weekends, Bank holidays)
- Work as a key part of multi-disciplinary team
- Mentor junior staff and lead in best practice
- Responsible for maintaining CPD including attending Trust mandatory training
- (Band 5 only) Engage and adhere to requirements of Preceptorship programme within specified time frame
Our Preceptorship program at ESTH helps early career midwives build skills, knowledge, and confidence as they move into their Band 6 role. Led by our Preceptorship Midwives, it offers tailored support to help new midwives meet clinical and professional standards.
The program includes:
- Professional Development programme supporting progression to Band 6 Midwife
- Specialist Midwife Leadership
- Holistic Support: The program includes a combination of practical training, mentorship, peer support, and reflective practice, giving early career midwives the tools and confidence they need to succeed
- Structured Learning: regular review points ensure support is tailored to individual needs
Experienced staff will benefit from ongoing professional support at ESTH. Our skilled PMA team, wider management and specialist midwives work together to promote a positive culture for career growth, ensuring all staff feel valued.

- We care for approximately 4,300 women annually across our two sites, utilising digital maternity systems
- Comprehensive Service Offering: Includes assisted conception, community services, obstetric-led labour wards, co-located birth centres, specialist midwifery teams, and our home birth team.
- Positive Feedback: Women and families consistently report positive experiences, highlighting the quality of care provided. The 2024 Maternity Benchmark survey demonstrated ESTH performed above average, particularly in postnatal care.

- Registered Midwife

- NLS
- NIPE
- Additional higher education or relevant qualifications undertaken
- Evidence of CPD
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in all maternity clinical areas (Antenatal, Intrapartum, Postnatal)
- Confident with multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria
- Experience in continuity of carer team
- Experience or placements in wider maternity specialities
Skills/ Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good knowledge of fetal monitoring practice
- Knowledge of obstetric emergency management
- Good fundamental IT skills
- Awareness of National guidelines and evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
- Additional externally acquired skills eg aromatherapy, biomechanics
- Cannulation, Suturing or IV administration experience
- Experience working with Maternity IT systems (eg CERNER, Badgernet)
