A new and exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Breast Unit assistant has arisen within the Breast Team, Bury St Edmunds covering the West Suffolk area. This is a new role to the unit and we wish to find the right candidate to take on the role, be adaptable and enthusiastic about making the role their own whilst enjoying the stability of joining a well-established and flourishing team who share the vision and goal to strive for the best of our patients.
As a team we continually strive to develop our quality health care services and we are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our dynamic multi- disciplinary service. The successful applicant will be joining an innovative team of clinicians providing high quality heath interventions as part of the wider forward thinking, diverse multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with nurses and other professional clinicians.
Main duties of the job
· Support and deliver a range of interventions within the Breast Unit
· Participate in the delivery of daily routine activities with patients e.g setting up and assisting with interventional procedures, preparing the sterile procedural equipment for interventional procedures, ensuring patient is correctly prepped, positioned and monitored throughout the procedure, direct/support other imaging assistants in delivering care/supporting colleagues with interventions.
· To attend meetings as and when required and disseminate information to the team appropriately.
· Communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary members of the care team, patients, and their family/carers on care related issues.
· Provide and support training, competency completion and development activity with the Breast Unit workforce.
· To participate and support in the implementation of service developments.
· Understanding of the sensitive nature of the role
· To work collaboratively with the nursing and imaging staff to provide full Breast Unit Assistant cover for all clinics and procedures undertaken within the Unit

Experience and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 Care/Health qualification or equivalent experience
- Care Certificate
- Ability to perform specific job role competencies.
- GCSE Maths and English grade 4/C or above
- Good IT skills use of word, databases etc.
Desirable criteria
- Continued development and learning.
- Leadership qualification or willingness to undertake.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Willingness to share knowledge
- Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of keeping the clinical environment safe and clean
- Knowledge of data protection
- Recent relevant experience of working in a healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working within Breast Unit or Radiology Unit
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work to clear guidelines and within role boundaries
- Proficient IT skills
- Comunicates clearly in writing, verbally and using the telephone
- Accurate with attention to detail
- Proficient in accurate, objective documentation
- Able to recognise deteriorating patient and escalate to Registered Nurse.
Desirable criteria
- Cannulation competent
- Venepuncture competent
- Proficient with Cerner/e-care systems

- Flexible approach to working hours/duties
- Awareness of own limitations
- Ability to use initiative, referring key decisions as appropriate.
