Job overview

The post holder will be expected to assist with the coordination and facilitation of the single point of access for aortic valve patients. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) / surgical aortic valve (SAVR) service at UHNM in line with local and national guidelines.

Work to develop the valve pathway and also same day discharge pathway to include  the whole patient journey. Work under the direction of the Clinical Director/Lead Clinician as a member of the TAVI/ surgical team in collaboration with junior medical staff and nursing teams.  

Contribute in providing a specialist nurse general valve clinic alongside the consultant cardiologist and support the development of a robust post TAVI follow up clinic, with a view to the post holder practising autonomously in delivering clinic activity.

Participate in the weekly TAVI and Mitral MDT’s with clinicians, administrators and other CNS. Demonstrate ability to critically analyse and apply research based findings to nursing practice
Participate in relevant audit, research and development activity.

Main duties of the job

 To ensure smooth planning, implementation and running of the percutaneous valve service

·           To ensure the smooth planning, implementation and running of research studies associated with the service.

·           Co-ordinate the MDT meetings for the percutaneous valve service ensuring all patient information is readily available.

·           Maintain databases and research documentation as required.

·           Undertake administrative tasks as required including patient follow up, with a view to running autonomous Clinical Nurse Specialist follow up clinics.

·           Ensure correct preparation and handling of samples according to local policy and national guidelines.

·           Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence based TAVI nursing care.

·           Provide expert advice and clinical practice in relation to the speciality.

·           Maintain appropriate channels and styles of communication to meet the needs of patients relatives, carers, managers, peers and other professional agencies.

·           Establish networks with other specialists at a local, national and international level to exchange and enhance knowledge and expirence.
