Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Intensive Care Clinical Sister. 

The post holder with work under the guidance and supervision of the SSR Ward Manager and share continuing 24 hour responsibility for the management of the clinical area including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The post holder will create a positive and supportive work environment for all staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under the guidance and supervision of the SSR Ward Manager, share continuing 24 hour responsibility for the management of the clinical area including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. Facilitate innovative and evidence based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team. They will act as a credible and professional role model and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK NMC Children's Nurse
  • Degree in Nursing or able to demonstrate academic ability at degree level
  • Recognised Critical Care Course at Level 3
  • APLS

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience in critical care to include 2 years in a leadership role
  • Previous experience of working within a PICU
  • Formal leadership and management training

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to organise workload, prioritising and delegating as appropriate
