Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a band 7 mental health Nurse Practitioner/ non medical prescriber within a new adult ADHD service.

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual who is a registered non-medical prescriber (NMP) with ideally with experience of working in a community setting. As a registered professional, you will be committed to providing a high-quality service and will support in the development of our ADHD clinic.

The service will cover the East and West of South Staffordshire offering remote and face to face appointments.

Ideally you will have experience with working with patients diagnosed with ADHD although appropriate training will be provided. You will be working as an autonomous prescriber and will effectively manage a dedicated caseload.

Main duties of the job

1.      Responsible for managing a case load of service users that have an established diagnosis and treatment plan for ADHD/ASC. The post holder will provide on-going appointments, prescribe medication as necessary and ensure all associated monitoring has been completed as per NICE guidelines.

2.      The scope of practice for the post holder would be to manage the treatment of ADHD/ASC. This may be extended to other diagnoses based on education, training, development and achievement of competence.

3.      To modify the treatment plan with respect to drug therapy for ADHD/ASC management.

4.       Responsible for the development, implementation and review of care planning and risk management.

5.      To provide expertise, support and advice to patients implementing best practise based on evidence based practice and National Guidance.

6.      To act as a core member of the multidisciplinary working alongside doctors, psychologists and MDT and other clinical case review sessions across a geographical area if required.

7.      To provide education and training to other prescribers, other health care professionals, clients, relatives and carers.

In this role you will manage your own caseload offering annual/ regular reviews of patient who are on medication for ADHD. To prescribe accordingly, discussing all treatment options, assess effectiveness, potential side-effects and make changes to medication when required.  You will assess if the patient has co morbidities which need treatment and signpost to appropriate services. Another part of the role is the delivery of psycho educational/ psychosocial sessions on ADHD for patients.

We are based in South Staffordshire and most of our work is done remotely but will provide face to face appointments as per patient need.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A qualified/registered mental health nurse plus diploma level equivalent qualification in sphere of professional practice
  • Additional specialist training, Non Medical prescribing V30
  • Evidence of professional updating and development within mental health services
Desirable criteria
  • ADHD Specialist Training
  • Autism Specialist Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant demonstrable experience of delivering therapeutic interventions to clients within a mental health setting
  • Experience of working therapeutically in community settings
  • Experience of working with more complex and challenging needs
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising junior staff

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of various approaches to mental health assessment
  • Knowledge of therapeutic approaches appropriate to use with complex and challenging needs in mental health care
  • Knowledge of ADHD/ASC assessment, treatment and review
