Lead Midwife (Labour Ward Coordinator)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Midwife to join the established labour ward team as a shift co-ordinator on our busy labour ward at Jessops
We currently offering fixed term posts for 1.6 WTE vacancy for a period of 12 months to cover maternity leave.
You will work within an established Labour Ward Team as shift coordinator and you will be responsible for the day to day management and clinical leadership of the midwifery team within labour ward and co-ordinate the safe evidenced based care of the women we care for.
Main Duties:
Responsible for the day to day co-ordination of Labour Ward acting as the key point of contact for staff, members of the multidisciplinary team and service users
Ensuring the 24hour provision of a high quality, effective midwifery service, providing leadership to staff and expert clinical midwifery advice.
Manage midwifery and support staff and the clinical area to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Work in partnership with women, and ensure the planning and implementation of individualised plans of care

- Promote high quality care, ensuring individual women’s needs and choices are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated regularly, maintain a safe and clean environment for staff and service users by ensuring compliance with legislation, polices, protocols including health and safety.
- Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging and complex pregnancy and labour related issues. Ensure and promote options to enable the delivery of optimum women centred care.
- Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary professionals and agencies, ensuring seamless care at a high standard.
- Act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide-ranging physical and emotional needs. Take the lead in managing contentious, sensitive and delicate issues with women, their relatives and staff.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for staff and service users by ensuring compliance with legislation, polices, protocols including health and safety, healthcare associated infection, risk management and critical incident reporting.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

- NMC Registration
- To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
- Continuous Professional Development
- First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)
Experience

- Extensive Midwifery Experience in all areas
- Knowledge of current national guidelines, policies and initiatives such as NICE, the Confidential Enquiries and the National Maternity Review.
- Knowledge of clinical audit and effectiveness of systems
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
- Ability to prioritise and work as a team member. Leadership skills.

- Academic courses relevant to role Leadership/management NLS NIPE Evidence of management experience Leadership course, postgraduate study
