The Yorkshire & Humber Paediatric Critical Care Operational Delivery Network was successfully designated as a Martha’s Rule Regional Pilot Network, and we're looking for someone to help us shape the national rollout of Martha’s Rule across paediatric care.

You will lead the engagement for the Martha’s Rule project, collaborating with NHS trusts and partners to develop solutions and create a framework for implementing Martha’s Rule across paediatric services.

You will be a registered Children's nurse/AHP with experience working in a paediatric setting, currently working within one of the 14 provider Trusts in the Yorkshire & Humber region.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Martha’s Rule Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the engagement work for the Martha's Rule project, ensuring the voices of children, young people (CYP), and their families are heard.

  • Work with all 14 NHS trusts in the region to understand what exists and and what is required to successfully implement Martha’s Rule consistently and fairly.

  • Collaborate with the Martha’s Rule Clinical Lead and other partners to develop solutions within existing resources.

  • Help develop a framework for Martha’s Rule that can be used across the country’s paediatric services.

  • Ensure that children, families, and staff, including those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, are actively involved in shaping the project.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse/AHP with significant experience in a paediatric setting, currently working within one of the provider Trusts within the Yorkshire and Humber region
  • Educated to degree level, supplemented by postgraduate training/experience and continued professional development, to Masters level or equivalent
  • Recognised teaching qualification, or experience of delivering education and training
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/Management Course or Project Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in, or with the NHS, facilitating change to improve care or health outcomes for children, young people and their families
  • Experience in nurse education/workforce development
  • Evidence of leadership skills and effective multi-disciplinary and partnership working, influencing and motivating peers and senior stakeholders, including clinicians
  • Proven change management and risk management skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience in managing the care of a critically ill child requiring stabilisation or escalation of care
  • Understands the whole pathway of paediatric critical care, and the roles of the wider MDT

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to present to a variety of audiences on a range of sensitive and contentious issues, and prepare concise yet insightful written communications and reports
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data, where a range of diverse and different opinions may exist, assess alternative solutions, and deal sensitively and effectively with the situation
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, motivating and influencing skills to support the implementation of Martha’s Rule across all clinical teams, non-clinical services and management
  • Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
  • Clear understanding of national policy and current issues affecting clinical services covered by the ODN
