Job overview

Children’s Services are recruiting a Band 6 Children’s Diabetes Nurse at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an exceptional individual to join an already established Children's Diabetes nursing team.

The applicants are invited to join a dynamic and cohesive diabetes team at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

  • To work under the direction and supervision of the CDSN team, Consultant Diabetologist and other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver education and support to the child and family from the time of diagnosis.
  • To work with the CDSN and MDT to provide a seamless service for children, young people and families with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM).
  • To deliver structured education at diagnosis for children, young people and families (CYPF)
  • To deliver on-going structured education for CYPF.
  • To develop and continue teaching programmes for nurseries, schools and colleges, with direct contribution to individual school healthcare plans.
  • To support the children’s diabetes team in achieving all elements of the Best Practice Tariff criteria.
  • To support the MDT in the delivery of outpatient clinic appointments.

Essential criteria
  • RN (Child-branch) Registration
  • Evidence of continual professional development and education
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to Degree level study
  • Recognised Diabetes Qualification
  • Community qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience - minimum of 2 years at Band 5 or above
  • Experience of needs assessment/care planning.
  • Experience of provision of training/education to a range of staff and patients
  • Experience caring for children with diabetes.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in community setting
