Trosolwg o'r swydd

The ED Sister/ Charge nurse works with the Matron, other Senior Nurses and Consultants for the Emergency Department  to deliver effective, high quality, safe patient centred care. She/he will lead and support the nursing workforce each day to ensure this. The Sister/Charge nurse will maintain oversight of the department and provide assurance that the department is performing safely and efficiently.

  • To establish and maintain effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and relevant clinical areas to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Ensuring safety checks are completed
  • Maintaining standards through audits
  • Ensuring safe staffing of the emergency department 
  • Clinically assessing to help identify sick and deteriorating patients
  • Ensuring sepsis targets are met
  • Providing clinical support to staff on duty
  • Maintaining oversight of all areas of the emergency department 
  • Ensure clear communication within the department and externally with patient flow 
  • Support with clinical emergencies
  • Ensure patients have plans and facilitate flow

Qualifications and Training

  • RGN. 1st Level or relevant children’s qualification
  • Current NMC Registration
  • 1st Degree in nursing or health related topic
  • Evidence of Masters level academic study or willingness to work towards Masters (in relevant health related subject)
  • Qualification in Teaching, Assessing and Mentoring
  • Leadership and management experience

  • Relevant post registration qualification at level 3
  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Management qualification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within speciality area
  • Significant relevant clinical and management experience
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for practice and behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self
  • Extensive experience as a band 6 in urgent care
  • Able to lead and manage the nursing team: Understanding of the principles and application of effective budgetary management
  • Able to lead and manage the nursing team: Understanding of the principles and application of effective staff and HR management/appraisals
  • Able to lead and manage the nursing team: Understanding the theory and application of clinical governance
  • Able to lead and manage the nursing team: Effective standard setting, monitoring and feedback
