Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen working alongside a small dedicated team of intravitreal injectors administering Anti-Vegf agents.
The post is for 22.5 hours a week over 4 days and will primarily involve administering intravitreal injections to patients with various medical retina conditions such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Retinal vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy.
The patients will attend clinic for a review where a decision is made by senior clinicians as to whether the patient needs an injection, these details are then passed through to the nurse injector if an injection is required. There will always be senior support in the department when you are actively delivering treatment in clinic.
Part of the role will also involve working in the outpatient department / urgent eye clinic assisting with patient assessments, diagnostics and coordination of clinical activity.
Band 5's within the department and elsewhere are welcome to apply, where the role will become a band 6 upon successful sign off to independently inject

To administer Anti-Vegf intravitreal injections upon direction from a senior clinician within the team.

We are a friendly highly dedicated team dedicated to providing the best possible care to a large number of ophthalmic outpatients in our local area.
The successful applicant will be working alongside a small team of experienced supportive medical retina nurses, allied healthcare professionals and medical staff.
Full support will be given throughout an approved training regime . Following administration of a minimum number of injections and sign off by our lead medical retina consultant, the successful candidate will be able to independently inject upon direction from senior clinicians.

Essential criteria
- RGN degree or diploma
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Post registration ophthalmic qualification
- Mentorship qualification
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience
- Proven experience within an ophthalmic setting
- Be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge demonstrating a sound understanding of issues relating to relating to identification, assessment, treatment and management of a client group
- Teaching ability - experience undertaking preceptor / mentor role
- An awareness and undertaking of policy and practice relevant to speciality
Desirable criteria
- Proven experience in retinal / intravitreal injection clinics
Skills and ability
Essential criteria
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting
- Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal and written
- Recognises changes in patient's conditions which require the intervention of others and ensure that timely referrals are made or escalation procedures enacted as appropriate
- Ability to undertake clinical procedures that require a high degree of manual dexterity accuracy including intravitreal administration of prescribed medication
- Positive attitude to change with a proven ability to assist senior staff in the implementation of change and practice development
