School Nurse

NHS AfC: Band 6

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust believes in fairness, equity and above all values diversity in all aspects of its work, as a provider of health services and as an employer of people. We provide visa sponsorship to applicant who require a visa to work in the UK, providing the role you’ve been recruited to meets the requirements set by the Home Office.

From 4 April 2024 overseas workers requiring a general Skilled Worker Visa (such as data analysts, IT and finance professionals, etc) but sponsored by an NHS organisation will need to meet the new salary threshold of £38,700. In addition, applications to the Health and Care Visa route for those occupations paid by NHS bands that are on the immigration salary, a list of skilled jobs which have lower salary requirements, will need to meet the national pay scale for their role or the new minimum salary threshold of £23,200 (whichever is higher). We advise that you check that the role you wish to apply for meets the requirement for sponsorship before applying.

Job overview

The Shropshire School Nursing Service covers from Oswestry to Ludlow and Bridgnorth to Market Drayton and Whitchurch.  Although we cover a large rural area, we are a close, friendly, respectful and supportive team.  We are looking for motivated, innovative applicants to join our expanding team.

The Children, Young People and their families are at the heart of everything we do.  If you are client-focused, with a strong sense of advocacy and a belief in equitable services, we would love to hear from you!  Our practitioners are autonomous and we welcome applications from individuals who would describe themselves as independent, confident and committed to deliver a quality service.

We are advertising for Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN qualified).  We are a 9-5, Monday – Friday service and have a variety of full and part-time posts in various localities around the county to help you preserve your work life balance.

If you would like to discuss any of our current opportunities, please contact: Kat Sealey on 07964 134121.

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from NMC registered Nurses in any field; adult, paediatric, mental health and learning disability nurses are all invited to apply.  All applicants must also possess the SCPHN (School Nursing) qualification and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.

The post involves travelling around the county and would best suit a car driver with access to a vehicle that can be used for work.

Our registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurses work closely with support workers and registered Staff Nurses to provide health education and promotion to children, young people and their families.  The role requires you to communicate well with different ages groups and provide consistent public Health information and signposting to our clients.  We also work closely with vulnerable families and individuals as well as with a wide multi-agency team of professionals.

Working for our organisation

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust provides community-based health services for adults and children in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and some services in surrounding areas too. These range from district nursing, health visiting and running four community hospitals through to providing very specialist community care through talented and dedicated staff.

Patients, carers and the public play a vital role in helping us to develop and improve our services and we are constantly looking for ways to work with local communities, patients and the public to innovate and improve. Have a look at the Have Your Say section of our website to find out how you can feed back your experiences and help us to continually improve.

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is an exciting place to work. It offers a wide range of employment opportunities for many people.
