An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Theatre Support Worker to join our Theatre Team at PTHB, working as part of a dynamic team providing high quality, comprehensive care. The post holder will work as a member of the Nursing Team and Preoperative Team under the direction and supervision of the qualified nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). The role ensures high standard of nursing care and safety for all patients or service users within the Theatre department. This is a fixed term position for 12 months and the base is Llandrindod Wells Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the assessment of care needs and the implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, participating and contributing to the wider clinical governance agenda including service development and flexible working to meet the needs of the patients and service.

Work in a multidisciplinary and multi-agency arena alongside other members of the primary and community teams. There is also a requirement to supervise junior staff and regularly work without direct supervision of a qualified nurse or ODP.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of a good general education and must be numerate and literate
  • Level 3 NVQ/QSF in a health care associated certificate/ Certificate in Health Care Nursing, Support Worker Education, Or Equivalent qualification, skills, knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing personal development relevant to the role in health care
  • Local knowledge of statutory of voluntary services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in providing care and undertaking clinical observations
  • Experience in a range of clinical skills in the operating Theatre and Endoscopy setting
  • Can demonstrate self-motivation, pro-activity and resourcefulness
  • Demonstrates confidence and assertiveness
  • Can evidence that they can/have acted as a positive role model for others
  • Ability to engage with members of the public
  • Able to work in a multi-agency arena
  • Able to work independently (within competency) and as part of the team

  • Previous caring role
  • Experience of working in an operating theatre

Essential criteria
  • Able to work under remote supervision
  • Ability to diffuse difficult/threatening situations
  • Skills in post-operative wound care
  • Experience of clinical specialities
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • High level of manual dexterity to enable postholder to prepare and check equipment
  • Computer literate with an ability to use a range of IT applications e.g. Word, Outlook

  • Ability to speak Welsh
  • Knowledge of management processes required to run the Theatre and Endoscopy department
