An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pro-active and dynamic Lead Nurse & Clinical Supervisor to join our patient focused and supportive immunisations and vaccination team in South Powys.  

The current vacancy is 37.5 hours / 5 days per week.

The successful applicant will lead the vaccination centre and outreach settings in order to increase local uptake by supporting and providing immunisation and vaccination services to the eligible population of Powys, in line with the National Immunisation Framework.

As Lead Nurse & Clinical Supervisor you will work as part of a dynamic team providing leadership and day to day management to the clinical team in order to deliver immunisations and vaccinations in a wide range of settings, including vaccination centres, outreach clinics at local community centres, community hospitals and care homes.

Substantial post grad immunisation experience and the ability to travel to different vaccination sites across Powys Teaching Health Board is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

As Lead Nurse and Clinical Supervisor, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team, delivering a safe and effective service for the delivery of Immunisations & Vaccinations to the eligible population of Powys.

You will be responsible for providing leadership and clinical supervision to a team of immunisers, as well as providing highly specialist advice and clinical services to the eligible population of Powys.

You will have sound leadership and organisational skills, as well as experience of supervising staff.

The post holder will understand clinical governance in order to provide a safe immunisation service, assisting to influence and facilitate change and a positive work culture within a variety of immunisation settings.

Undertake day-to-day management duties of new and existing staff, allocating duties and dealing with sickness absence, study leave requests, PADRs and other staff queries.

Working to the clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and guidelines, supervise vaccination delivery and ensuring that clinical governance is adhered to.

Make judgements and decisions within the confines of own professional code of conduct and within national and organisational guidelines/policies for self, working closely with the Deputy and Senior Clinical Leads for Immunisation and Vaccination.

Required to be an independent practitioner, using a high degree of autonomy and working with minimal supervision.

  • Professional knowledge acquired through Degree, supplemented by Post Graduate qualification/Diploma or possess skills, knowledge, training and experience to its equivalency.
  • Knowledge of the Vaccination and Immunisation Framework for Wales.
  • Current immuniser with up to date immunisation training / or willingness to undertake immediate update and review of competencies.
  • Substantial immunisation experience, either as an Immunisation Nurse or a General Practice Nurse
  • Substantial post registration experience, within Primary Care setting or immunisation services.
  • Previous experience in immunisation and vaccination. Knowledge of immunisation schedules in accordance with national recommendations.
  • Working knowledge and literate with computer skills to use of word document, internet access and email correspondence and electronic record keeping.
  • Evidences skills in communicating complex and sensitive information and in difficult situations, requiring empathy, reassurance and health promotion/vaccination championing
  • Practical skills and knowledge of cold chain procedures and medicines management.
