Are you a senior midwifery leader looking for an exciting new challenge? If so, we have just the role for you at Powys Teaching Health Board. We are delighted to be advertising our first ever Director of Midwifery role. The role at Powys is a unique opportunity with a diverse portfolio. You will be responsible for the delivery of the Health Board’s Women and Family services which includes Childrens Community paediatric services, Health Visiting, School Nursing, Women’s Health and Sexual Health Services and Midwifery Services.
We are looking for an individual passionate about Women’s Health and about ensuring that children and young people have the best start in life. You will need to work in partnership with multiple stakeholders, focussing on population health and reducing health inequalities.
You will need to be a compassionate and authentic Leader, putting quality at the heart of your leadership, ensuring that the quality standards and their enablers are embedded within the Women and Family Service Group.

Main duties of the job
The Director of Midwifery and Family Health is a key role in Powys Teaching Health Board. Responsible and accountable for the strategic direction of Women, Children and Family Services, providing expert strategic and clinical leadership, responsible for both operational and professional leadership and delivery.
Actively lead and contribute to the formulation of long-term, strategic plans to inform operational delivery, ensuring effective implementation and monitoring. This will include effective Quality Governance arrangements to ensure that Women, Childrens and Family Services are quality driven, enabled by a robust Quality Management System.
Set high clinical standards and meet regulatory requirements for the delivery of the Women’s & Family Services Directorate for the Health Board. Lead the Directorate to drive the service to achieve the best possible outcomes for service users ensuring that care is delivered in line with the quality standards 2023 (Safe, Timely,Effective, Efficient, equitable and Person-Centred) always striving for excellence within budgetary requirements.
Lead a Women and Family Health Service that is focused on population health,recognising the wider determinants of health and maximising the opportunities for health and well-being, in particular focusing on Early Years and reducing health inequalities.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with current Nursing & Midwifery registration
- Significant post registration experience at very senior midwifery/nursing level
- Educated up to master’s level or equivalent specialist training
- Continuous professional development
- Extensive in-depth knowledge of issues across the NHS and patient agenda
- Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to professional midwifery and nursing practice
Desirable criteria
- Leadership qualification
- Formal Project Management experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience at a very senior midwifery level
- Significant senior operational management experience across healthcare settings
- Experience of developing governance frameworks to support service delivery
- Experience of leading and implementing service improvement / redesign in healthcare
- Proven ability to work across systems, organisational boundaries, develop networks
- Has a good understanding of research and can demonstrate how research has influenced their practice
- Significant team and service leadership experience
- Ability to deliver improvements to client care and effectively manage operationally
- Management of complex change
- Budgetary management skills
- Significant experience of leading clinical teams and crossboundary projects
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in provided services and in the Commissioning field
